We are in the middle of summer and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) reminds us of the many events and natural resources that are available in New Jersey’s 39 state parks, 11 forests, 35 historic sites and 121 wildlife management areas. In our state parks, experience New Jersey’s natural and historic world. Discover the many special places in this astoundingly diverse state.
Last year, New Jersey’s state parks had 19 million visitors. These parks offer opportunities to experience firsthand New Jersey’s natural and historic resources through wildlife management and interpretive centers, hiking trails, lakes, rivers, forests, beaches and historic monuments and battlefields covering 800,000 acres.
Take a few days and discover a lifetime. Step back in time and visit Allaire Village, Batsto Village, the manor houses at Ringwood State Park or any of the historic sites in New Jersey. Climb to the top of a lighthouse and watch the ocean wash the shore. Follow the American Revolutionary Trail as it crisscrosses New Jersey and learn how N.J. played a pivotal role in the fight for democracy. The opportunities are endless. New Jersey residents age 62 or over and people who are totally disabled may obtain a pass entitling them to free admission and free parking upon providing adequate verification of their status. They also receive a $2 per night reduction in campsite rates.

** The third show in our Summer Concert Series will be Thursday, Aug. 24, and will feature Long Live the Beatles, the premier Beatles cover band. If you want to know what the Beatles experience was all about, this is the band to see. This mind blowing performance takes you back in time with the legendary foursome delivering a note-for-note theatrical event that is the next best thing to seeing the Beatles. The show is free and starts at 7:30 p.m. at Connolly Park. The “Beer Garden” and food trucks will open at 6:30 p.m.
** Voorhees Township is offering discounted tickets to Morey’s Piers in Wildwood. Tickets are available in the Municipal Clerk’s Office at Voorhees Town Hall.
