Mayor’s Column

Voorhees is proud of our sustainability efforts, including our State Silver Sustainability Award, the highest award level. Sustainable Voorhees is committed to fostering a socially responsible citizenry, protecting the health of the environment and building a strong local economy by collaborating with residents, businesses, schools and government to promote and implement sustainable practices. As part of the sustainability process, the Voorhees Arts Council was formed and will be providing monthly arts education programs for the community.

On May 23, the Voorhees Arts Council will be featuring “Grow & Glow,” an opportunity to   create a lantern planter while socializing with neighbors and friends. The event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Boscov’s courtyard at the Voorhees Town Center Mall. This event is sponsored in partnership the Voorhees Citizens Event Foundation and there is a $15 fee for materials and refreshments. All are welcome.

On Saturday, June 3, the Voorhees Arts Council is presenting its quarterly youth program, “Wild Animals and Photography.” The event will educate children about photographing wild animals (and pets) with phones and cameras while learning how to protect wild animals with photography. Local nature photographer Marianne Leone will share photos of lemurs from Madagascar and wolves in Yellowstone, along with animals from the Philadelphia Zoo. The event is free to Voorhees residents with a suggested $5 donation for others. This youth event is from 10 a.m. to noon in the rear of the Voorhees Town Center food court.

Please let the program organizers know if you plan to attend either of these events by emailing sustainablevoorhees@gmail.com.  Look for future monthly programs at sustainablevoorhees.org.
