The Voorhees Township Police Department is hiring new officers and looking for hard-working, dedicated and energetic individuals. The department currently employs 56 Full-Time Police Officers, 14 Special Law Enforcement Police Officers (SLEO II), 10 Crossing Guards and 10 Civilian Employees. The VTPD continues to undertake initiatives to keep our community safe. The Department has joined the Neighbors APP by Ring in an effort to connect with residents and improve safety. Neighbors App allows the user to share photos, videos and information related to local crime and safety incidents so fellow residents can stay informed. Our police department can view public postings of local residents to Neighbors and chime-in with relevant updates or safety alerts. A Ring device is not needed to join Neighbors. Anyone with a smartphone can download the Neighbors App at https://ring.com/neighbors in order to receive updates and have the option to post photos or videos from any device. Always report criminal activity or emergency situations to 911.
Our VTPD also participates in the “SafeCam Program” which allows them to maintain a database of active cameras in the event a crime occurs. The registration does not give police access to a resident’s camera system without permission. Project Medicine Drop offers a safe place to dispose of unwanted medications in the lobby of our Police Headquarters and ensures that medications that are no longer needed cannot be subject to abuse. Prescription drug abuse is an ongoing problem and most diverted drugs come right from a medicine cabinet in the home. The unwanted medications are disposed of according to established state procedures. The following items can be disposed of in our Project Medicine Drop box: pills, capsules, patches, pet medications. The VTPD also has a Safe Exchange Zone in front of our police station. The Safe Exchange Zone was conspicuously placed on the sidewalk closest to Kerper Lane, between two bright yellow signs and in a well-lit area with 24-hour video surveillance to enhance safety. The Safe Exchange Zone was created for in-person online purchase exchanges and custody exchanges. Our police encourage our residents and visitors to meet at our police station for these purposes in a safe environment. Conversely, police recommend that residents never meet in a secluded or clandestine location, invite a stranger to their home or go to a stranger’s home, and always be cautious when purchasing or selling an item.
