Military Appreciation Month

Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to show their gratitude to troops past and present. Each year, the President issues a Proclamation reminding Americans of the important role the U.S. Armed Forces have played in the history and development of our country.

May was chosen because it has many individual days recognizing our military’s achievements including Loyalty Day, established in 1921, Victory in Europe (VE) Day commemorating the end of WWII in Europe in 1945, Children of Fallen Patriots Day, the anniversary of the death of Osama bin Laden, Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Armed Forces Day.

Most importantly, we pause on Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice and service of those who gave all.

Visit Military.com as we honor the service and sacrifice of members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, Space Force and National Guard as well as the contribution of their spouses.

Voorhees Township dedicates an entire page on our website to veterans. We hope to provide an easy source of information for and about veterans.  To learn about veterans offers and programs, visit https://voorheesnj.com/residents/voorhees-offers/veterans-programs.

Many businesses offer special discounts on or around Military Appreciation Month or Military Appreciation Day.  Find more information about military discounts at Military.com.

Also, we are proud to honor our veterans on our Veterans Wall of Honor in the lobby area of Town Hall.  Established in 2014,the Wall pays tribute to 439 local heroes who bravely served our country.  If you have never seen the Wall in person, May would be the perfect month to pay a visit.
