The Voorhees Township Committee continues to work hard to make our community more walkable, drivable and bikeable. There are 16.6 miles of bike paths in our Township, more than any other municipality in Camden County.  The Voorhees Township Bicycle and Pedestrian Pathway Committee promotes our bike paths and bike safety for the benefit of our community.

Here is a list of the bicycle and pedestrian path work being performed this year:

NJDOT Safe Routes to School Grant – Echelon Center Pedestrian Improvements Project.  New sidewalk, handicap ramps, curbing and retaining walls are being installed along Lucas Lane between Britton Place and White Horse Road, and on Van Buren Road between Echelon Road and Lucas Lane.  New trees and shrubs will be planted to replace those removed during construction.

NJDOT Safe Routes to Transit Grant – White Horse Road Pedestrian Improvements (Phase IV).  New Sidewalk, handicap ramps, curbing, signage and striping are being installed along White Horse Road between Burnt Mill Road and Executive Drive.  Upon completion, there will be continuous sidewalk on both sides of White Horse Road between the project limits.

NJDOT Bikeways Grant – Maiaroto Park Bike Path.  New asphalt bike path and bike racks are being installed in the park that will connect Kirkbride Road with Echelon Road along with access to the new playground area, refreshment stand and soccer fields.  A new concrete sidewalk is also be installed along the east side of the park that will connect Echelon Road to the basketball court, pickleball courts and soccer fields.

NJDOT Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Improvement Program – Pedestrian and Bike Lane Improvements for Access to Ashland PATCO Station. 

In a combined project between Voorhees, Cherry Hill, Lawnside and Somerdale, new sidewalk, handicap ramps, curbing, signage and striping are being installed on Evesham Road between Cooperstowne Boulevard and Burnt Mill Road.  There will be road widening, bike lane striping, drainage improvements and new signage installed on Preston Avenue between Evesham Road and Somerdale Road.  New sidewalk, drainage improvements, striping and signage are being installed on Somerdale Road between Preston Avenue and Burnt Mill Road.  This project is also in cooperation with Camden County who will be resurfacing Preston Ave and the above-mentioned area on Somerdale Road.

More and more people are biking.  Buses now have bike racks on the front and trains allow riders to bring bikes on board.  The Voorhees Township Police Department has a bike patrol that tours the municipality when weather permits.

Voorhees is a member of the Cross County Connection, an organization working with the state to foster transportation alternatives.  Visit their website at driveless.com to gain access to interactive bicycle maps throughout South Jersey. The website will allow you to put in your starting and ending addresses and give you bike path information for your journey.  It also provides information about existing and proposed bike paths in the area.

** Summer hours for the Voorhees Township Town Hall will be in effect until Tuesday, Sept. 2. The Township offices will be open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5:30pm and will be closed on Friday.

** Voorhees Township is once again partnering with Morey’s Piers to offer discounted tickets for their amusement piers located on the Boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ.  Tickets may be obtained in person from the office of the Voorhees Township Clerk (856) 429-7757 and are payable by CASH ONLY.  Tickets are available to residents and non-residents.  Office hours now until Thursday, Aug. 28: Monday through Thursday, 8:00am to 5:30pm.
