VTC Summer Theatre Program

The Voorhees Theatre Company (VTC), in conjunction with the Voorhees Community Education and Recreation (CER) Department, will once again offer their successful and popular Summer Theatre Program from June 22 to Aug. 1.  More than 130 children in grades three to eight are expected to participate in this summer’s production of Dear Edwina Jr.

Now in its 24th year, the VTC summer theatre program attracts young performers from many South Jersey communities, including Voorhees, Cherry Hill, Marlton, Gibbsboro and Berlin. The program takes place at the Voorhees Middle School.

Participants split their days between rehearsing for the show and participating in a variety of interactive workshops taught by staff and local theatre professionals.  Workshops include topics such as stage, dance and vocal training.  The program will culminate with six performances of Dear Edwina Jr.

Dear Edwina Jr. follows the adventures of plucky advice-giver-extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the neighborhood kids in a series of buoyant production numbers for the latest edition of her weekly “Advice-a-Palooza.” Edwina and her friends share wisdom on everything from trying new foods to making new friends, through clever, catchy and poignant songs.

Registration for the summer program begins March 16. Materials are available at www.voorheestheatre.org, at the Voorhees CER office at the Voorhees Middle School, or by emailing vtcsummertheatreprogram@gmail.com.

The program will run for six weeks, Mondays to Thursdays, 9 am to 3 pm. Cost is $750 for Voorhees residents and $775 for non-residents.

The VTC is a non-profit community theatre providing opportunities for community members to participate in theatre as performers, technicians and audience members.  In addition to the summer camp program, VTC will produce the popular musical Sister Act for performers ages high school and older this summer, and an all-ages production of Shrek in the fall.

The mission of the VTC is to offer educational opportunities to artists on stage and behind the scenes and to bring audiences professional-caliber performances within and beyond the walls of the theater.  The VTC offers a safe harbor to all participants who want to explore the arts.
