MAYOR’S COLUMN

South Jersey Magazine once again named Voorhees as one of the “2020 Top Towns” in which to live. The Township Committee works to make sure we improve our services and infrastructure to continue to be ranked as a desirable location to call home.

We continue to make our township more walkable and bikeable. We added a new bike path along Route 73 from Kresson Road through Lions Lake Park connecting to Dutchtown Road andadded bike lane striping on Pine Avenue from Burnt Mill Road to Kirkwood Park. Handicapped ramps and a flashing crossing beacon are now at the intersection of Old Egg Harbor Road and Centennial Boulevard. With grant funds, we added a traffic light at the intersection of Kirkbride Road and Town Center Boulevard.  We were awarded a grant to install sidewalk along Echelon Road from the Town Center to White Horse Road on the side opposite to the Maiaroto Sports Complex.

We continue to upgrade our neighborhood parks. With the assistance of several Camden County Recreational Grants, we added a new playground structure at the Giangiulio complex and shortly will be adding a handicapped accessible walkway from the parking lot to the bathrooms and snack bar at the Maiaroto Complex. A new large pavilion was added adjacent to the playground area of Connolly Park. The turf was replaced at the cricket pitch at Connolly Park and new benches were added at Lions Lake Park, Connolly Park and Kirkwood Park. Through private donations, a bench was added at the Green Ridge Playground and dedicated to the memory of Ashley Paul.

It is important to keep or roads safe and efficient. This year, we resurfaced Kirkbride Road, Echelon Road, Camden Avenue, Middlesex Avenue, Burlington Avenue, Kestrel Drive, Millbank Lane and Millbank Court.

The Township Committee will continue to maintain and improve our municipal facilities, utilizing grant funds whenever possible.
