Pride Month

June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual (LGBTQ+) Pride Month dedicated to the celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender pride. It began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969, and has since spread outside of the United States.

The month recognizes the impact that the LGBTQ+ community has had on U.S. history. President Bill Clinton first designated it as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month on June 11, 1999, with President Barack Obama proclaiming it Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month 10 years later.  Pride Month means stepping into your light and taking complete joy in celebrating love. It is about celebrating LGBTQ+ history, fighting discrimination and honoring difference.

If Pride Month has a special meaning to you, share your personal story on the Camden County website sparkcreative.wufoo.com/forms/camden-county-pride/

Communities are stronger when all people, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics, are fully recognized as free and equal members of our society.

The Voorhees Township Committee is proud to join other towns, counties, and states in observing Pride Month and in honoring the history of the LGBTQ+ liberation movement and to support the rights of all citizens to experience equality and freedom from discrimination.  Pride Month supports awareness and provides support and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community and is an opportunity to act and engage in a dialogue to strengthen alliances, build acceptance and advance equal rights.

Therefore, the Township of Voorhees proclaims June 2023 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
